Saint Peters, Saint Kitts (Public Infrastructure News) – On February 15, 2024, the St. Peter’s Community Center was the venue for a crucial town hall meeting, focusing on the rehabilitation of St. Peters Main Road and F.T. Williams Highway East.
The meeting brought together dozens of residents, including the Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew, Ambassador Cedric Liburd, and key figures from the Ministry of Public Infrastructure and Sustainable Development.
Chaired by the Permanent Secretary of Public Infrastructure Daryl Lloyd, the meeting addressed the project’s progress and future plans, including road widening, new sidewalks, and underground drainage.
Public concerns about the design, potential detours, noise, and dust pollution were also raised, with assurances of minimal disruption and opportunities for public input being guaranteed by the Public Works Department and the project’s contractor, Alexes Hazel of Rock & Dirt Ltd, who committed to incorporating relevant concerns into the design and construction process.
The Hon. Konris G M Maynard and other project leaders highlighted the importance of the upcoming property condition survey and the significance of community feedback in shaping the project.
Prime Minister Dr. Terrence Drew also gave brief remarks in which he emphasized the project’s importance for Saint Peters.
The road rehabilitation project has been seen by many as a necessary continuation of the paving of the island’s main roadways.
